How to Move out of your Comfort Zone

Pitching yourself to employers after an employment gap is a scary prospect. To aim high and get a job you'll love when you're returning to work means putting yourself out of your comfort zone. Here's three ways I can help support you in taking those steps after a career break

Returning to work after a career break can push you way out of your comfort zone, in so many ways. It's not easy to keep putting yourself out there time and time again, pitching yourself to employers, and to negotiate terms that work for you and your family.
I've been thinking a lot about comfort zones this week as I've really had to push myself to do something that I've put off for a long, long time. I've known for ages that I should do an 'About me' video for my website because I need to let people see what kind of person I am. When people are choosing someone to work with 1:1 video is invaluable for showing them who you are and giving them a sense of if they'd like to work with you. But doing video gives me the heebie jeebies. I hate the thought of it, so I've found excuses to put it off for 6 months!

Finally I bit the bullet last week and went ahead and made the video. As with most things, it wasn't as bad as I expected, though I can't say I loved the experience! It's done though now, yeah. Once I'd recorded it I then did something even more scary - a Facebook Live! That was absolutely terrifying but I felt so elated afterwards. I know this is what I need to be doing to keep moving forwards - and it felt AMAZING to challenge myself and accomplish it.
